Gender
At Energicity, we are committed to empowering women and promoting gender inclusion across all facets of our operations. Our impact extends beyond business transactions, reaching into the lives of our customers. For instance, a female customer, upon leasing a freezer from us to sell frozen fish at the market, experienced a remarkable threefold increase in her household income. Our studies in Ghana further highlight the transformative power of gender-inclusive initiatives, revealing a 30% surge in female entrepreneurs with the advent of electricity. This led to a substantial boost in women’s income, ranging from 6 to 11 times.
In collaboration with CARE, particularly through initiatives like the SHE program, we actively integrate gender inclusion into our company’s structure. The SHE program, detailed here, exemplifies our dedication to creating an environment where diversity is celebrated, and women’s empowerment stands as a fundamental pillar of our organization. Our commitment aligns with the criteria set forth in the Global 2X Challenge for gender inclusion, demonstrating our emphasis on fostering women’s entrepreneurship, supporting female leadership, and ensuring gender-inclusive employment practices. Join us in building a future where gender equality is not just a goal but a reality.
Health
On June 26th, Adamsay Sankoh arrived at one of the clinics powered by Energicity. Enduring a prolonged labor, Adamsay was brought to the facility in dire need. Swift action by our hospital midwife and surgical officer led to the safe delivery of her baby through an emergency cesarean section.
Enter Energicity’s solar energy source. Enabled by the energy provided, they were able to conduct the necessary medical procedures, ensuring the well-being of both mother and newborn. Post-delivery, it became evident that the newborn faced severe respiratory distress, necessitating immediate intervention. The power supply from Power Leone allowed doctors to resuscitate the baby and provide sustained respiratory support for over five days until stability was achieved.
The significance of solar power in this life-saving episode cannot be overstated. Without a sustainable source of energy, the outcome would have been starkly different. Traditional fueled generators, given their exorbitant costs, would have been impractical for a sustained five-day period. This narrative is a testament to the pivotal role of reliable energy in healthcare, illustrating how it transforms critical moments into stories of resilience and triumph.

Previously, residents of Rotifunk faced the arduous task of traveling 60-70 kilometers to Waterloo to purchase sachet water at a cost of 8 leones per bundle. This endeavor included an additional 2 leones per bundle for transportation, excluding individual travel expenses. The local water market sold bundles for 12 leones, leaving traders with a meager profit of less than 2 leones after deducting transportation costs.
Enter BOSS B Water Company, a female-owned enterprise with connection to Energicity’s electricity services. Wholesalers now enjoy the convenience of purchasing water bundles at the same 8 leones without incurring additional transportation costs. Retailers, benefiting from the local accessibility of BOSS B, can acquire bundles for 10 leones.

This shift not only saves time and resources but also bolsters economic opportunities within the community.
BOSS B Water Company is a shining example of electricity leading to economic empowerment, reshaping the dynamics of the local water market and fostering a sustainable and prosperous future for Rotifunk and its neighboring communities.
Education
The introduction of electricity at Conakry Dee Junior School marked an important turning point. Principal Lamin M Kamara highlighted the contrast in academic outcomes before and after Energicity’s arrival. In July 2016, without electricity, there were 51 students in the class and only 18 achieved passing scores. However, in July 2019, following the arrival of electricity, there was a notable transformation. Not only did the class size increase to 72 students, the number of passes surged to 54. While enrollment increased, failures decreased significantly, showcasing a promising shift following the availability of electricity. The change illuminated a new educational horizon for Conakry Dee and its surrounding villages, underscoring the key role electricity plays in fostering academic success.
